Overview
A pair of low taper candle holders in a copper-tone metal. Each has a wide, shallow drip plate with a heavily textured, rough-cast surface, a plain cylindrical candle socket at the center, and a short round foot. The tops show warm copper and brown tones with darker recesses, while the undersides are smoother with a warm brown finish. Low and compact, they suit a dining table, mantel or shelf, on their own or grouped with other candles.
Background
Rough, sculptural metalwork like this is often called Brutalist, a design approach that became popular in the mid-20th century. This pair is unsigned and unmarked, and the maker and age are unknown. The metal is non-magnetic, which fits copper or a copper alloy.
Condition
Good used condition. There is green and dark candle wax residue on the plates and sockets, light surface wear, and a minor dent in the rim of one plate. The sockets look sized for standard taper candles but have not been tested. Please see all photos.
