Overview
A covered sugar urn in silverplate on a round pedestal foot. A Greek key band with beaded edges runs around the shoulder. The body is engraved with flowers and leaves in scalloped panels over a dotted background, crossed by a wider engraved Greek key band with a center cartouche. Two tall scroll handles rise from the sides. The domed lid is engraved with flowers and topped with a cast leaf finial. Rope-twist borders trim the lid, neck and foot.
Background
The only mark is the number "0661" stamped under the foot. There is no maker's name. The style and decoration fit American silverplate of the late 1800s.
Condition
Tarnished and unpolished. There is plating wear on the high points and the foot rim, with base metal showing in places, plus light scratches. The inside is darkened. The handles, foot and finial are attached, and the lid fits well.
