Overview
A sterling silver oval brooch set with a large azurite-malachite cabochon. The stone shows deep royal blue azurite mixed with bright green malachite, with small touches of gold-brown matrix that give it a natural, map-like pattern. It sits in a smooth silver bezel, framed by a ring of raised round silver discs and an outer border of fine beaded granulation. The silver has a soft, lightly oxidized finish that brings out the beadwork. It makes a bold accent on a coat, jacket, blazer or scarf, and the colors stand out well against neutral fabrics.
Background
Azurite and malachite are copper minerals that often form together, which is why the deep blue and green appear side by side in one stone. Silver settings with round disc borders and beaded granulation are a popular handmade look in sterling jewelry. This brooch is stamped 925 on the back for sterling silver; there is no maker's mark. The stone has not been lab tested.
Condition
Good pre-owned condition. The stone has no chips or cracks; the small dark line in the lighter area is a natural vein in the stone. The silver shows light scratches, mostly on the back, and some light oxidation. The pin and catch are intact and the pin closes and locks securely. Please see all photos.
