A rope-twist gadroon border runs all the way around the rim, and each end has a raised shell and scroll ornament. The center is a recessed oval well with a stepped edge. The silver has a warm tone, with scratches and darker tarnish in the border and ornaments from age and use. It works for serving bread or rolls, or as a small catchall on a vanity, dresser or entry table.

Background

Gadroon-rim bread trays with shell and scroll ends were a popular silverplate design through the 20th century. The tray weighs about 12.1 oz.

Condition

Good used vintage condition. There are scratches throughout, tarnish in the border and ornaments, a few small dark spots, and small pale marks on the top. The plating is worn along the underside rim at one end, where the base metal shows. No dents or repairs are visible.
